I am going to talk about the problems that I have with this college and other colleges around the country.  When I was in high school I always had teachers telling me that I had to go to college to succeed.  I had it drilled into my mind that if I didn't go to college I would not be able to get a good paying job.  I also got the idea that community college was for people who were not as smart as me or could not afford to go to a more credible or renowned school.  I blame the unconscious thought that I needed college on the way that these colleges market themselves and the way that my teachers have been trained to explain the need for further education.
Only when I had been in college for two years did I really realize how little sense it makes for me to go here.  I don't know if its just because I have had a bad experience at this particular school or if it just because what I want to do doesn't really require a four year degree.  I have recently realized that this school cannot accommodate me to create a major that will suit my career goals.  I would talk more about how the school has not looked out for my interests and has not tried to offer me any suitable alternatives.
I feel that many public colleges are like this and it is a sad state of affairs.  The good thing is that most students can find their major but this is not the true problem its just my problem.  There are many things that I feel are wrong with public colleges.  I can understand that not all people can get into all programs because they are just not qualified, but I do feel that it is a little extreme, I feel like they are making it tougher for people to get into programs so that they can raise prices.  How can a public college tell you that you have to live anywhere, for any amount of time?  You are going to college not prison.  Schools tell you that you have to buy their housing and eat their food, and then they overprice them to an appalling rate.
Now that I have come to college I can see that it is ironically one of the most illogical moves of my life.  You would think that going to get a good education would be a logical step but after my first two years, I just know that college for me is not a logical step.  Once you have been in for two years you can't vary well just quit though, they have you too invested in your education to change your mind.  There are many more problems with how ironically illogical a lot of colleges are.  I feel like I could write about it for days but I am out of time.  I would really appreciate responses and peoples arguments for the pros and cons of college.

This year I also had a strange mid college crisis. I didn’t feel like dropping out of college because I know that it is true, for the majority of people, that in order to obtain a good paying job you need to have a college degree. The sad thing is not only do I need a college degree; I also need a graduate degree to compete.Education is ridiculously important in the United States especially now that we are falling quickly in international rankings. Our stocks are in a recession. People’s values or lack of has lead people to believe they deserve to and need to be Pdiddy and Paris Hilton so they are now borrowing money they cannot pay back. My point is, we could use some more education in this country. It is really ridiculous that we have to pay so much for all of this mandatory housing and food but unfortunately that is what college has become. I think that we need to be selective in our programs but not so that we can get more
money. We need well educated people leaving this university with hard earned degrees. It maintains and even improves our reputation and sends capable professionals out into the world; professionals that could be managing your money or treating your children. A small private school sounds like a better choice for you. They cater to their students needs more than people do here.
Private school has its downfalls too though. My friend’s school doesn’t have enough money to give them up to date lab equipment which hampered her ability to complete her senior project. Education is expensive. I have had bad times
here as well and thought about transferring this year. Our drinking reputation has started to get to me. Last weekend I was walking behind an overweight girl
and some drunk guys on a porch started heckling an overweight girl walking ahead of me. They told her to get gastric bypass and to not wear skirts anymore because they shouldn’t have to see her shit. I almost started crying and I
wasn’t even the one who was harassed. I know there are assholes everywhere but it feels like there are more here. This is not the first time I’ve seen things like that happen here on weekends. I’m glad you decided not to drop out because throwing your work away now would be a waste of time and money. I think both of us are realizing, and dealing with the truth that we may have been much happier with different decisions.

i can understand your frustration with this university, as I have had my fair amount in the last two years as well. because of my participation in a very selective major, I can relate to the pressure that you’re feeling. its completely unreasonable for a college to force you to live on their property and to purchase their absurd meal plans as well. tuiton prices are becoming laughably high, but what else can you do? and its true that we are taught from the start of high school how terribly essential college is, but for the most part it holds true. the reason that I’m having trouble relating to your particular situation lies in the fact that you make some very general claims about the this university without backing them up with facts. Im not trying to undermine whether or not you were screwed by ohio university or not, but I think that your argument is a bit hard to follow. claims that you make like “ the school has not looked out for my interests and has not tried to offer me any suitable alternatives” which are followed by you directly stating that “its just my problem” kind of contradict each other. you also seems to be projecting your personal feelings about the university to the rest of the majority of students here, when as you previously stated, your situation is uncommon. but regardless, it’s unfortunate what you’re going through right now, best of luck figuring it all out.
